FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bruce Robinson First Formal Candidate to Replace Redmer
House Minority Leader Redmer to be named insurance commissioner
May 15, 2003 --
Recently, there has been a great deal of speculation about the
appointment of 8th District Republican Delegate Al Redmer to head up
the Maryland Insurance Commission. Less than an hour after Governor Bob
Ehrlich’s statement on WBAL Radio’s Ron Smith Show this afternoon that,
“the decision has been made,” and, “the announcement will come soon”
came the first formal statement of candidacy for the soon to be vacant seat.
Bruce Robinson, President & CEO of The Judith P. Ritchey Youth
Services Center, Inc, and community and political activist, began his campaign
at the Republican Club of Northeast Baltimore County’s Annual Chicken Dinner
at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Pinehill Avenue in Perry Hall. A past
President of the club, Bruce greeted the dinner guests and distributed detailed
statements of his qualifications.
Earlier in the day, Robinson met with Delegate Redmer and describes
Redmer’s response as enthusiastic. “Go for it,” Redmer responded when told
of Robinson’s intention.
Jeff Getek, club president, made the formal announcement when he
introduced Robinson to the partisan crowd as the first declared candidate for
the position that is not yet open. Amid jocular comments regarding “waiting
for the body to cool”, referring to Redmer’s continuing to be the very
active Minority Leader in the House of Delegates, Robinson was compelled to jump
into the race now due to the press speculation about other potential candidates.
“I have an extensive, strong, committed history of providing leadership
and service to my community,” Robinson explained, “and the results of that
service demonstrate that I have made a difference in the past and will continue
to make a divergence in the future.”
Although the general public does not have a vote on Delegate Redmer’s
replacement, Robinson is requesting that members of the public should express
their support for candidates to the decision makers, the Baltimore County
Republican Central Committee. “The Central Committee members were elected to
represent the party membership,” said Robinson. “If the public prefers one
candidate, that clearly indicates that that candidate has earned their
support,” he continued.
“Al Redmer earned his seat as a Republican and the party is required to
fill it when he resigns. As a practical matter, I think the appointee should be
someone who has what it takes to be elected on their own merits in 2006. I am
that person,” asserted Robinson.
Robinson suggests that anyone wanting information about his candidacy, or
on who their Central Committee representatives are can call him at (410)
668-6849, contact the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee at (410)
823-1990, or visit their website at www.BaltimoreCountyRepublicans.org.

June 1, 2003 --
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friends of Bruce Robinson announces Web Presence
Campaigning in the 21st Century
June 1, 2003 --
Bruce Robinson, the only announced candidate to fill the 8th
District seat in the Maryland House of Delegates vacated by the resignation of
Minority Leader Al Redmer, is the first candidate in this competitive district
to establish an on-line presence, www.BruceRobinson.com.
“Candidates and elected officials cannot ignore the fact that too often
people need information now, not necessarily when the candidate is in their
neighborhood,” according to Robinson.
All of the votes will come from members of the Baltimore County
Republican Central Committee, and their decision must be made before the end of
June and presented to Governor Ehrlich, who will make the actual appointment.
The day for their consideration has not yet been announced.
“Voters of should be aware of who the candidates are, what positions
they hold on important issues, and have a way to communicate with the candidates
and the Central Committee. The www.BruceRobinson.com website provides those
opportunities when the voters are available to collect the information,” said
Robinson.
As the first, and so far only, candidate for the appointment, Robinson
has demonstrated leadership throughout this process. “Historically, the
appointment process attracts people who see it as easy way to become an elected
official. I want people to know that running for this seat was not a snap
decision on my part, and I want the voters as well as the Central Committee to
know that I am committed to doing the job of representing the people of this
district. The website helps me do that by establishing two-way communications with
citizens,” continued Robinson.
Bruce Robinson’s campaign treasurer, and wife, Lorraine Gordon, added,
“The website also lets people volunteer to help Bruce, endorse his candidacy
and make contributions to his campaign.”
“Serving people in the twenty-first century means keeping up with the
various ways people seek and exchange information,” related candidate
Robinson. “Every member of the General Assembly has been provided an e-mail
account. Every member of the Baltimore County Council has been provided both
websites and e-mail. In both cases, the purpose was to permit citizens to
contact officials. I believe that serious candidates should provide people with
the same access.”
